Stuck In The What?

Spinning your wheels, feeling overstimulated, dead ends, being left high and dry (this is more of a low and moist situation), stuck in the mud... Stuck in the.. Quicksand?
Y'ALL CAN GET THE DETAILS OF THAT LAST PART LATER
I feel like you get the gist of the feeling I'm talking about, though. Not a great feeling, BUT, it's a feeling most of us can relate to. Especially! If you have or are currently dealing with active substance use disorder (SUD). We get to a point in the active addiction time where we just feel stuck, helpless, or worthless. What do you do when you feel this way?
I've spoken about coping skills/mechanisms before. Today, I'm talking more about reaching out for help. There comes a time in our active use when we've exhausted our own efforts in "figuring things out." That's what I called my previous attempts at sobriety. When that happens, we need extrinsic assistance to pull ourselves up off of the current rock bottom we're experiencing. So what do we do?
“One of the most amazing things that we often forget is this: God never forgets us! Face it; you could hide under a rock, BUT, God will still be beside you saying, "Rock bottom, already?"” ―Mary Kate
The scary part is that a lot, if not most, of us sit there in misery. Crippled by shame and pride for not being able to take care of ourselves. Somewhere down the line, we experienced some sort of abuse, mistreatment, or trauma that makes us believe we aren't allowed to ask for help. Be it the shame, guilt, or triggers that are causing us to feel this way... They are quite blatantly lying to you (the "they" here are the intrusive/negative thoughts holding us back). Compare this to a man stuck in a quicksand hole in freezing water that's too macho to call for help until his hands are numb from trying to dig himself out... sound familiar to anyone?

Don't let the shame, guilt, or anything else keep you from the healing, recovery, and wellness you deserve. And you DO DESERVE it, even if you've told yourself every reason you can think of to the contrary. If your eyes opened this morning and your heart is beating, you deserve to live a healthy life of wellness.
Now, I could go on with the many many ways you can achieve that healthier life, but there are many other blogs and podcasts on here to dig through for tips and tricks for getting off those rock bottoms. So hit those up or drop me a line here → mitchell@217recovery.com we'll continue the conversation.
Until next time.
