Quality Time

Writer: Justin BurkeJustin Burke

Life just keeps amazing me these past few months. A few months ago I got my own place. I got my daughter full-time about a month ago. And also within the last month I got to reconnect with my son. These are all things I never thought I would have the opportunity in my life.

This is what dedication hard work really shows and pays off. This also has been a time of reflecting on the past. This weekend was a little bit of that. I opened up about my pass to my kids to show them what struggles I dealt with. That's why my son opened up and explained what he went through with his past about a year and a half ago, losing everyone close to him. And how he thought escaping with alcohol, would ease those pain and feelings.

In the end, we both realized that knowing ourselves to forget the reality of the world, we live in only keeps you shackled and chained to a very dark spot. I hope one day he is willing to open up to share his story to show people what teenagers also go through. I couldn't be prouder of my son for overcoming things in his life that he has to overcome.
