Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs)
Learn what Recovery Community Organizations are, how they support individuals and families, and the role RCOs play in strengthening recovery communities.
What Is a Recovery Community Organization?

A Recovery Community Organization (RCO) is a nonprofit organization led by people with lived experience in recovery. RCOs provide peer-based recovery support services designed to help individuals and families achieve and maintain recovery.

Unlike treatment providers, RCOs focus on ongoing recovery support, community connection, advocacy, education, and peer services.

Common RCO services include:
• Recovery Coaching
• Peer Support Services
• Transportation Assistance
• Support Groups
• Community Education
• Family Support
• Recovery Events
• Advocacy

RCOs help individuals navigate challenges that may arise before, during, and after treatment.

By focusing on connection, purpose, and community involvement, RCOs help individuals build recovery capital and improve long-term outcomes.
