As my friend and I drove back from a NA meeting in Gaylord, Michigan, we started to have our usual post-meeting chat. One of the many things I took away from our conversation was how it's the little things in life that make us satisfied or happy. As I looked down a few minutes ago I noticed my Nico (my cat) playing with the charging cord from my laptop that's dangling off the coffee table. I grinned and laughed a little because she looked so focused on playing and it looked like she was having so much fun. That's when I knew I was about to talk about the right subject in this blog.
When life comes at us fast it's easy to let the little things go unnoticed. The kiss goodbye to the wife, the hug when you reunite, the quite of a drive, a text from my brother or sister, my cat running down the stairs to greet me when I return home. Those are just some of the little things I must remember that I'm grateful for. It's easy to be grateful for a roof over your head, food on the table, gas in the car, a job... But don't get too busy that you forget about the little things that matter most. Purposely notice them, I mean really, go out of your way to enjoy them and reflect on them. I have no idea what the little things in your life are, but take a moment when you're done reading this to think about them. Write them down if you have to, but in the next week really notice them and see life get just a little bit easier.
